about
This is a tune I wrote about the great Iowa bluesman Joe Price. A great slide guitar player in the Elmore James style, he often played solo. But on the rare occasion he'd solicit someone else to come in and play. My buddy Jim played with him once, no rehearsal. Showed up at sound check to get some idea what he was supposed to do with the songs. Afterward he had questions, asking Joe, do you want me to do this kind of thing here, or should I do that...Joe paused and then responded- "You like wine, don't you?" As to say, relax, have a few drinks...you're thinking too much.
lyrics
Sunlight through my window
coffee ready to go
I shook off my sleep
turned on my radio
shook the dust out of my dreams
when I heard ol' Joe go
Yeah, he sounds so good
like getting touched by the good book
I'm going down to see him
when I get off from work
Friday night comes
let's kick back and have some fun
I got sparks in my seat
I got my girl and my dancing shoes on
Yeah he sounds so good
like getting touched by the good book
I remember thinking
he's only going to get better
at 85 he'll still be all sweat and smiles
shaking in his seat
thumping his foot all the while
he's gonna sound so good
like he's adding a chapter to the good book
thank you Joe for playing
I send this out to you
you got my feet feeling bold
my ears on cruise control
you turned the noise off in my head
you turned on my radio
you shook the dust out of my dreams
you took my heart out for a stroll
yeah you sound so good
like getting touched by the good book
I've been listening to this record for over 30 years (!) It still holds up as one of the best pure pop records that you've probably never heard. A gem, to be sure. Tom Jessen
I'm including this just because it was the first thing I ever heard Dan make and I think it's necessary to start here. Quirky, honest, sometimes goofy and funny, but always heartfelt. Tom Jessen
